Central Park

Even though New York City is generally speaking kind of a cesspool, and nearly everything about it (outside of crime, avarice, and vanity) is over rated, Central Park is nonetheless a legitimate entry on any “must mow” list. The grounds themselves are of only modest quality, but they benefit from the contrast with the grime and filth of the general surroundings (i.e., the city and often its inhabitants). Consequently, the maintenance of these grounds does not require the highest level of skill. However, if nothing else, if one is able to say “I mowed in Central Park” it does speak to your bravery and willingness to look danger in the face, and to your passion for this thing we call mowing. The Augusta National Golf Club
Name me one lawn mower worth his weight in lawn clippings who hasn’t dreamed of mowing the greens and fairways of the fabled grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club. Amen Corner, Rae’s Creek, the Eisenhower Pine……the mere mention of these iconic features makes me want to fire up the mower and “slay some blades” (aka mow grass)! And now that they’ve finally opened the course to women, one would be free to mow without the burden of grappling with any moral quandaries.

The National Garden in Athens, Greece

This is a topical selection given all the recent news about Greece going down the tubes financially. This stately garden dates back to 1838, and is well known in Greece as the setting of the famous “monkey bite” suffered by King Alexander. Winston Churchill once said it was no exaggeration to say this monkey bite changed the course of Greek history. I have always wanted to visit Athens and if I ever do I’d love to have the chance to mow here. Probably the only downside would be the high likelihood (given current circumstances) of non-payment for my services. Learn more about the National Garden in Athens here.

The Gardens of Versailles
We may as well start off with an obvious one – the famous Gardens of Versailles in France. These grounds are surely on the “must mow” bucket list of nearly every lawn care professional. Famous for its meticulously groomed lawns, these gardens offer a tremendous challenge to even the most skilled mow-man or mow-woman. Though I have not been here myself, I hope to some day.
